Today and Tomorrow
15 April 2020
‘Today’ is gone
Shroud-counting and loud nothings overtaken by
Bird song
No strangers here
Too virused those others, refuge now in
Old novels and beer
Lockdown beats casual
Outside planned to the length of a broom apart
Where possible
Work’s flood, a trickle. A new rhythm to the dance:
Teary applause, weekly outdoors
The caught kind eye of a passer-by
Shopping local because it’s helpful
A zoom for the old clan to chat now you can
A trip to the grim chemist to help out old Dennis
A few quid for the homeless;
Is this all there is?
Tomorrow: unknown
Maybe something kinder from saving the world by
Sitting at home.
