Reflections On Home
The world seems smaller...I look at maps online and photos to check if all the counties still exist
Bright Light. The sunshine on my eyes takes me back to the Costa del Luz where the sky is a never ending blue arch over my head. I remember when I went swimming very early in the morning sea and then I chatted and laughed with my friend, Lisa, on the beach, a towel wrapped around my wet hair. The air felt warm on my skin after the coolness of the sea. A memory traveller. No one ever chooses a life at home, without plans and the possibility of plans to travel and escape the daily routine.
Travel is suddenly a luxurious extravagance, just an idea at the moment, endless anticipation, so I travel through the photographs on the walls and the replay moments and mind memories. I was hanging out the train window going up the mountain from Durango. After three days of hiking: the beer, the journey and the adventure was my friendship holy trinity.
The world seems smaller...I look at maps online and photos to check if all the counties still exist! Looking out the window, I look forward to my daily walk: walking into the garden, past the field of sheep and lambs, uphill and my favourite ivy- covered tree, the bird song in the hedges, and down the final descent. The white, thatched cottage, at the bottom of the hill, is a sign that my walk is almost over and I re-join the village.
After only a few weeks at home: looking out the window; walking into the garden; following my usual route around the village; my eyes scan the landscape, I look at the quilt of yellow and green fields, and seek the horizon.
