Carol Laurent is a Belgian-born historian and art curator whose research focuses on feminist art histories, historiography, and transnational artistic practices. She is an FNRS Research Fellow at Université libre de Bruxelles, where she is completing a PhD entitled Gunpowder & Sugar Politics: Ana Mendieta’s New York and Rome Years (1978–1985), and a Visiting Doctoral Student at Wolfson College, University of Oxford (Hilary Term 2026).
She holds an MA in Art History, an MA in the Sociology of Migration, and an Advanced MA in Gender Studies. Her current research has been supported by fellowships at Academia Belgica in Rome and research appointments at New York University. She recently delivered public lectures on Ana Mendieta’s Earth-Body practice at Trouble Festival 2025, marking the festival’s twentieth anniversary, and at the EEE Symposium on Performative Writing (Ana Mendieta & Jayne Cortez / A Machete Scraping Across Polished Gallery Floors). She collaborates with Tate Modern and other institutions on forthcoming Ana Mendieta retrospectives.
