Dr Barbara Boswell is a novelist, critic and Associate Professor of English Literary Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She has published two works of fiction: Grace: A Novel (2017), winner of the 2018 University of Johannesburg Debut Creative Writing Prize, and The Comrade’s Wife (2024). Barbara also authored the monograph And Wrote My Story Anyway: Black South African Women’s Fiction as Feminism (2020), and is editor of Lauretta Ngcobo: Writing as the Practice of Freedom (2022). Barbara’s project during her term at the OCLW, Barbara will be working on a historical novel based on a family archive of letters and journals.
