Yosef Wosk Visiting Researchers

Visiting researchers will be senior academics (normally those who have reached the equivalent of Professor or Associate Professor) or have a distinguished track record in their field. Visiting Scholars will undertake their own research and writing while benefitting from the intellectual support of the Oxford Centre for Life-Writing and other visiting researchers.

Successful applicants will be invited to join our Visiting Researchers Seminar for the duration of their stay, and can participate in all our events during that time. The Visiting Researchers Seminar is a closed event, not open to the public, in which members share works in progress and provide feedback to each other. It takes place Tuesdays at 11am during term time, with hybrid options available - though those presenting work must be present in person. Other than the opportunity to participate in this group there is no supervisory structure to the placement, but scholars are encouraged to meet with each other to discuss their work outside of the group if they wish to.

Participation in the OCLW Visiting Researchers group does not provide college membership, college library access or entitlement to meals or accommodation, although group participants are welcome to join us for lunch in hall after the Tuesday seminar each week. A University Libraries card can be obtained here. We do not provide funding to scholars, or help in searching for funding, for accommodation, travel, or living expenses.

Profiles of current visiting researchers can be found on our People page under Visiting Researchers.

Planning your visit

We would strongly encourage you to plan your visit to coincide with one or more of Oxford University's terms as OCLW does not run events or meetings out of term. Oxford's year is divided into three terms: Michaelmas, Hilary, and Trinity; for further details and dates, please click here.

Applicants may apply for between 1 and 3 academic terms (1 year total) in the first instance; existing visiting researchers may apply for an extension to bring their total time up to a maximum of 2 years.

Please note: due to the high volume of proposals currently being received we encourage you to apply at least two terms ahead (i.e. apply in Michaelmas Term for a start date the following Trinity Term, and so on). Please let us know if your start date is flexible, or if you need to apply by a particular round in order to be able to arrange flights, funding, or other matters.

How to apply

Please send a CV and 1 page proposal of your project to admin.oclw@wolfson.ox.ac.uk. Please indicate in your email your ideal start date and intended duration of your scholarship.

We will acknowledge receipt of all applications via email. If you don't receive an acknowledgement please contact us again.

Applications will be accepted at any time - please state clearly in your email what your ideal start date would be, so that decisions can be prioritised accordingly.
