What I'm Working On, and Why it's Life-Writing

OCLW’s Life-Writing Research Network is a global academic community of people engaged in life-writing research. At the core of the network is a termly online research event—sometimes a seminar or talk, sometimes a practical workshop or “flash talks” networking session.

This term's event is an open networking session, inviting members to speak for up to 5 minutes on their research, and how it connects to the field of life-writing. With time for questions and discussion, the event will allow participants to meet with others working in related fields (though perhaps from opposite approaches!) and understand better how wide-ranging the field of life-writing truly is.

Who can join OCLW's Research Network?

The Research Network is open to all, including academics, students, authors, and independent researchers. There is no restriction on discipline or career stage. Many network members are former OCLW Visiting Scholars or early-career researchers and writers who intend to apply to the scheme at a later stage, so the network offers opportunities for lifelong networking, relationship-building, support, and the exchange of ideas.

While membership of the network is open to all, the group is aimed at those conducting life-writing research. If you are interested in discussing life-writing topics more generally, sharing book recommendations, and seeking feedback on your own life-writing, you can also join our Friends of OCLW Life-Writing Discussion Group, and our Online Writing Feedback Group run in partnership with Oxford Writing Mentors.

How to join the Research Network:

Membership is £57 a year, which you can set up as a one-off or annual payment by clicking here (this link takes you to our Donations portal. Please enter a custom amount of £57. You have the option to apply Gift Aid in addition if you are a UK taxpayer.) Your membership will last for 12 months from the date of payment. In addition to paying the fee, please fill in the form here, to tell us about yourself.

This online event is free to members of OCLW's Research Network, as well as to Visiting Scholars, Visiting Doctoral Students, CWAR Fellows, and Global Majority Scholars. Registration is required.

The event will not be recorded.

Registration will close at 10:30 on 7 December 2025.  The Zoom link will be circulated the day before the event.
