Join novelist Sarah Moss and historian Sarah Knott in conversation with critic Merve Emre. 

Sarah Knott is associate professor of History at Indiana University. She is the author, most recently, of Mother: An Unconventional History (London: Penguin Viking, 2019), a memoir and history of pregnancy, birth and the encounter with an infant. She is also the author of Sensibility and the American Revolution (Chapel Hill: North Carolina Press, 2009), the editor of Women, Gender and Enlightenment (Basingstoke, 2005), a member of the editorial board of Past and Present, and a former editor of the American Historical Review. She is a research fellow of the Kinsey Institute.

Merve Emre is associate professor of English at the University of Oxford. She is the author of Paraliterary: The Making of Bad Readers in Postwar America (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2017), The Ferrante Letters (New York: Columbia University Press, 2019), and The Personality Brokers (Doubleday: New York, 2018), which was selected as one of the best books of 2018 by theNew York Times, The Economist, NPR, and The Spectator. She is also the editor of Once and Future Feminist (Cambridge: MIT, 2018). Her writing regularly appears in The New York Review of Books, Harper’s, The New York Times Magazine, London Review of Books, and The Atlantic. In 2019, she was award the Philip Leverhulme Prize. 

Sarah Moss is Professor of Creative Writing and Director of the Writing Programme at the University of Warwick. Her first novel, Cold Earth, was published by Granta in 2009, followed by Night Waking, Bodies of Light (shortlisted for the Wellcome Prize), Signs for Lost Children (shortlisted for the Wellcome Prize), The Tidal Zone (shortlisted for the Wellcome Prize) and most recently Ghost Wall (longlisted for the Women’s Prize and shortlisted for the RSL Ondaatje Prize among others). She wrote a memoir of a year in Iceland, Names for the Sea, published by Granta in 2012 and also shortlisted for the RSL Ondaatje Prize. Her next novel, Summerwater, will be published by Picador in Sept 2020. Her books are translated into many languages.
