Kate Culkin is a Professor of History at Bronx Community College, City University of New York and on the faculty and executive committee of the M.A. in Biography and Memoir at the City University of New York Graduate Center. She is the author of Harriet Hosmer: A Cultural Biography and an associate editor of The Harriet Jacobs Family Papers. She has also published on science fiction by nineteenth-century women and the memorialization of women in the Hall of Fame for Great Americans. She earned a Ph.D. in History from New York University and is on the steering Committee of the Women Writing Women's Lives seminar. At the Oxford Center for Life-Writing, Kate will work on a "Thankful for My Sister: Ellen Tucker Emerson, Edith Emerson Forbes, and the Emerson Legacy." This joint biography of the daughters of Lidian Jackson and Ralph Waldo Emerson has been supported by grants and fellowships from the Houghton Library, the Massachusetts Historical Society, the CUNY-Professional Staff Congress Research Fund, and CUNY's Chancellor’s Research Fellowship.
