Anna Beer on ‘Eve Bites Back’ – in Conversation with Alice Little
Anna Beer is a cross-disciplinary author and scholar, working at the intersection between literature, history and the arts. A Fellow of Kellogg College, Oxford University and former Director of that university’s Creative Writing MSt, she has written lives of major figures such as John Milton and William Shakespeare. Anna’s particular interest is, however, the relationship between gender and culture. Her Sounds and Sweet Airs: The Forgotten Women of Classical Music (2016) has led to many and various creative collaborations and media appearances, whilst Eve Bites Back: An Alternative History of English Literature (2022) reveals and celebrates the remarkable lives and powerful work of eight women across five centuries - all game-changers, ground-breakers, or simply writers of genius in their chosen genre.
Alice Little is a Research Fellow in Music, and Administrator at the Oxford Centre for Life-Writing. Her academic work focuses on music collectors and collections from the eighteenth century to today. In addition, she is an author of fiction and tutors in Creative Writing for Lady Margaret Hall; she is Associate Writer in Residence at Wytham Woods, University of Oxford.
